The Fribourg daily Freiburger Nachrichten told the story of Felix, a five-year-old boy with Usher syndrome type 1, through the words of his mother, Elise Meyer.
In a full-page article by Lena Brügger, published on Saturday 1 March 2025, Elise Meyer explains what it means for a family to live with Usher syndrome: Felix was born deaf, received cochlear implants in 2020 and today hears and speaks, while his sight is slowly decreasing. "The whole development will surprise us again and again," she says.
The article also tells how Felix's parents, together with the parents of a girl with the same syndrome, founded Save Sight Now Europe to raise funds and accelerate research, and it announced our evening at the Tour Vagabonde in Fribourg: the screening of a film about Felix's story, a panel discussion with his parents and Berta Adell, president of the foundation, and a concert by the Geneva folk singer Melissa Kassab.
Thank you to Freiburger Nachrichten for giving Felix's story, and the urgency of research, a place in its pages.
