Two weeks before the tournament, Atlántico Hoy published an in-depth article on Usher syndrome and the I Torneo de Pádel por el Usher at DRAGO Padel Center.
In her article of 12 September 2026, Luna Moya Silva explained what the disease involves – hearing loss combined with retinitis pigmentosa, which gradually damages the retina – and that it is the most common genetic condition affecting both sight and hearing, behind around half of all inherited cases of deafblindness.
She then presented the tournament on 25 and 26 September as a way to bring this rare disease onto the padel courts of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and to raise funds for research.
Thank you to Atlántico Hoy for taking the time to explain Usher syndrome so carefully.
